The Client needed an original design to promote their scientific and technological image. The Client's request was simple: "We need something WOW!"

What was the customer/designer looking for from a design standpoint?
They needed something that stood out, and promoted them as a Science and Technology Centre. This client needed something out of the ordinary.

What were the cost considerations?
To decide between steel or aluminum. Steel needed to be primed and sprayed, as well as it being higher maintenance. Aluminum is lower maintenance, but it is more expensive and needed to be handled with more care.

What were the delivery considerations?
We needed to transport and install this pylon-sign in such a way so that it doesn't get damaged. The fact that the curves are immediately available from Vista, made our lives that much easier!

What did the customer request, what needs did they present and what problems did they need solved?
It needed to stand out in the street that they are situated in. A city-centre, and all the buildings there basically look the same. The work they do as an agency is magnificent, and the way they portray themselves to the public, should be magnificent as well. The client, being a scientist, wanted to know every exact detail of the sign, from the lightbox down to the bolts! As a result we presented him with a lengthy proposal of every nut, bolt and bracket to be used. We did several site-checks, which not only put the client at ease, but gave us the exact details we needed to see this project through.

What were the most important challenges you faced as a sign maker (cost, delivery time, design functionality…)?
The biggest problem we faced was design-functionality. When I mailed my design through to Vista, we reasoned back and forth on how we were going to make this idea work. The person I dealt with at Vista was extremely insightful and full of brilliant ideas. With his help and the expertise of our technical-team, we soon had a flawless plan of action!

What problems did you run in to? (Manufacturing? Price? Technical? …)
The original design had to be amended slightly.

How did you solve them?
The steel hollow sections on the sides had to be moved inward about 500mm, to ensure total structural support.

How long did it take to complete the project?
14 Working Days

Describe if and how MCFT played a part in the project.
All the curved sections and the top lightbox section are all from MCFT, and the fact that they were immediately available and easily assembled, made this project much easier. Their technical support was amazing.

On completion, this project proved a very important fact. Anything in this industry is possible, no matter how wild the idea or design, the key is teamwork and communication!
